The church’s wood latticework roof and the iconic spire collapsed, but thanks to the prompt mobilisation of 500 firemen, most of the valuable religious relics and cultural treasures were spared.
Today, after only 5 years the Parisian Cathedral is ready to be open to the
public. This would have not been possible without the collaboration, the passion and the expertise of several hundred craftsmen. The official opening to the public is scheduled for the 8th of December 2024.
To start with, visitors coming to Paris during the Olympic and Paralympic Games will have the privilege to admire the spire built by architect Viollet-le-Duc which has been completed in February.
In the upcoming months the renovation of the central nave’s roof and the organ with its 8000 pipes is due to finish too.
Although, the majority of the works have been completed, the completion of the building will continue beyond the public opening and more precisely throughout the 2025 and 2026 when restoration of the apse, the sacristy and the installation of contemporary stained glass windows is due to end.
The Cathedral of Notre Dame it was already very popular among tourists coming from all over the world previous the fire, and it is even more now after a long wait, in fact between 12 and 15 million visitors are expected to be welcomed at Notre-Dome after this historical reopening.
